Navigator by Narrative Node

Sorting a thousand clips by filename is slow work.

A name like A001_C016 doesn't tell you which take has the good smile, so you open clips one by one and lose the afternoon. Navigator docks inside Premiere and lets you scrub every clip with your mouse, mark the part you want, and send it to the timeline.

Windows · macOS · Premiere Pro 26.3+

Every bin in one tree.

Nested bins are easy to lose in a big project. You click in, click out, and forget where the B-cam footage went.

Navigator lays the whole project out as a tree with a clip count on every bin, the way Final Cut Pro's sidebar does. Fold what you've finished, open what you need, and drag folders into your own order. The order is only your view, so the project stays as it was.

Export only the part you marked.

Pulling ten seconds out of a long clip, for a teaser or a client, shouldn't mean building a sequence first.

Mark in and out with I and O, right-click, and choose Export In to Out. Pick ProRes or DNxHR, or take a straight copy if you don't want to re-encode. H.264 and HEVC are there too when your graphics card can encode them. The file lands in your project's Exports folder.

Premiere's own marks IO

Paste an image and it's in your bin.

A venue map in an email, a logo on the client's website, a reference frame. Saving it, finding it in Downloads and importing it takes longer than the picture deserves.

Copy the image in your browser and press Ctrl+V in Navigator (Cmd+V on a Mac). It goes into the bin you have open.

That's the whole import CtrlV

Link your asset folders once.

Music, sound effects and stock footage live in folders Premiere doesn't see. You import a track, hear it in the timeline, decide it's wrong, and start over.

Point Navigator at those folders in Settings and they appear in the sidebar beside your bins, however big the library is. Click a track to hear it with its waveform. Double-click to import it into a matching bin.

Gather every outside file into the project.

Music on one drive, stock on another, a logo in Downloads. Hand the project to someone else, or archive it, and files go missing.

One click copies everything the project uses from outside its own folder into an Assets folder beside the project file. Your originals stay where they are and nothing gets relinked.

Try the panel yourself.

This is Navigator's interface rebuilt in HTML, so you can use it here. Scrub a clip, mark a range, favourite a take and export it. Nothing leaves your browser.

  • Hover a clip to scrub it
  • I O mark a range
  • F favourite, R reject
  • Right-click for more
  • Ctrl V pastes an image from your clipboard

Hover, shortcuts and paste need a mouse and keyboard, so this works best on a computer. Tap a clip to select it.
